📖 Leviticus 11: Called to Be Clean

"God sets His people apart through holiness even in the everyday."

Aim:
To explore how God’s laws on clean and unclean animals teach us about holiness, obedience, and spiritual discernment.

🙌 God’s Attributes

  • Holy – He calls us to live differently (v.44–45)

  • Wise – His instructions protect His people

  • Just – Cleanliness matters in both outer practice and inner attitude

  • Caring – He knows what nourishes and what harms

📌 Key Facts

  1. God defines clean (acceptable) vs. unclean (taboo) animals—land, sea, air.

  2. Unclean includes animals that don’t chew cud or have split hooves, fish without fins or scales, most insects.

  3. Touching carcasses of unclean animals makes you unclean until evening (11:24–40).

  4. Ritual washing and waiting until evening restores cleanliness.

  5. These laws distinguish Israel from other nations and maintain communal purity.

🔍 Three Ps

  • Purity – Physical and symbolic distinctions emphasize a holy lifestyle.

  • Pattern – God carefully outlines what is clean vs. unclean.

  • Prevention – These laws shield Israel from spiritual and physical harm.

  • Holiness extends to everyday life—what we eat, what we touch, and how we live.

  • Spiritual discernment often begins with obeying details.

  • God’s boundaries are protective, not punitive—they care for His people.

🧭 Application

  • Evaluate your daily habits. What you consume—food, media, habits—affects your soul.

  • Seek discernment: ask God what is beneficial and what may dull your spiritual sensitivity.

  • View God’s commands as acts of care, not restrictions.

  1. Choose something you consume regularly (a food, a TV habit, social media).

  2. Pray, ask God to reveal if it nurtures you or harms you spiritually.

  3. Make a choice to keep or remove it based on His guidance.

Lord, You are holy and set me apart. Show me what’s cleansing and what’s defiling. Help me walk in purity—in body, mind, and spirit. Amen.
