 📖 Exodus 33: Presence Over Promises: Choosing God Himself

“When God's presence goes with us, we are truly set apart.”

Aim: To help believers prioritize intimacy with God above His blessings, and recognize the value of His presence in our journey.

God's Attributes in Exodus 33

  • Merciful and gracious

  • Relational and personal

  • Holy and just

  • Willing to forgive and renew covenant

Facts

  • After the golden calf incident, God tells Moses He will send an angel but not go with them.

  • Moses pleads for God’s presence to continue with Israel.

  • God reassures Moses and reveals His goodness.

  • Moses asks to see God's glory.

Three Ps

  • Presence: Moses knew God’s presence was essential for guidance and identity (v.15–16).

  • Petition: Moses boldly interceded on behalf of the people (v.12–13).

  • Promise: God promises to go with Moses and give him rest (v.14).

Insights

  • God values relationship over ritual. Even after sin, He responds to sincere intercession.

  • Moses teaches us that intimacy with God should be our highest priority—not just His blessings.

  • True leadership begins with dependence on God’s presence, not human strategy.

Application

  • Seek God's face, not just His hand. Ask, “Do I desire God more than what He gives me?”

  • Like Moses, intercede for others and for God’s presence in your community.

🔹 Write a personal prayer asking God to go with you in all areas of life.

Prayer

Lord, more than anything You can give me, I long for You. Let Your presence go before me. Teach me Your ways, and show me Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
