Aim

To understand the spiritual and historical significance of the Passover, and how it points to Jesus as our ultimate Deliverer.

God’s Attributes in Exodus 12

  • Redeemer – God redeems His people through the blood of the lamb.

  • Judge – He brings just judgment upon Egypt.

  • Faithful – Keeps His covenant promises.

  • Protector – Provides covering for those under the blood.

Facts

  • God instructs Israel to prepare for deliverance through the Passover meal.

  • The blood of a lamb on doorposts spares Israelites from the death plague.

  • This event marks the beginning of the Hebrew calendar.

  • Pharaoh finally lets Israel go after the firstborn plague.

Three Ps

1. Promise: God promises to deliver Israel from Egypt (v.13).
2. Principle: Obedience to God’s instructions (sacrifice, unleavened bread, haste).
3. Prophecy: The Passover lamb foreshadows Jesus Christ, our eternal Lamb.

  • God’s judgment and mercy operate side by side: judgment on Egypt, mercy on Israel.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the blood that saves. Just as You passed over the homes marked by faith, may You cover us with mercy and keep us walking in obedience. Help us to live as people ready for Your call. Amen.
