 Genesis 37:~Dreams and Detours: Joseph’s Journey Begins

To reflect on how God uses difficult beginnings to prepare us for His greater purposes.

God’s Attributes:

  • Sovereignty – God is in control even when life feels unfair.

  • Providence – He orchestrates events to fulfill His purposes.

  • Faithfulness – God’s promises to Joseph are never forgotten.

Facts:

  • Joseph, Jacob’s favored son, shares his dreams of greatness.

  • His brothers become jealous and plot against him.

  • They sell him into slavery, and he ends up in Egypt.

  • Despite betrayal, God’s hand is evident in Joseph’s journey.

Insights:

  • Favor can bring opposition, but God's purpose will stand.

  • Our painful detours are often divine preparations.

  • Jealousy can destroy families—guard your heart.

  • God allows trials that shape our character and destiny.

Application:

  • Trust God even when life takes unexpected turns.

  • Don’t despise your detours—they may be your training ground.

  • Encourage others in their dreams instead of comparing.

  • Commit your dreams to God, and let Him guide your steps.

Deed:
Encourage someone today who feels forgotten or betrayed. Remind them that God is not finished with their story.

Prayer:
Lord, when I face rejection or unexpected turns in life, help me trust that You are at work. Like Joseph, may I hold onto Your promises and walk faithfully, knowing that Your plans for me are good. Amen.
