Exodus4: Equipped by God: Overcoming Fear with Obedience

"When God calls, He also equips."

Aim:

To recognize that God empowers ordinary people for extraordinary missions and that obedience often requires trusting Him beyond our insecurities.

God’s Attributes:

  • Patience – God listens and responds to Moses’ doubts.

  • Power – He performs signs to validate His call.

  • Sovereignty – He chooses who to send and how He’ll use them.

  • Compassion – He provides Aaron to support Moses.

Facts:

  • God calls Moses to return to Egypt and deliver Israel.

  • Moses hesitates and questions his ability.

  • God shows signs: the staff turns to a serpent, the hand becomes leprous and healed.

  • God appoints Aaron as Moses' spokesperson.

  • Moses obeys and begins the journey back to Egypt.

Three Ps:

  • Promise: God promises to be with Moses and teach him what to say (v.12).

  • Principle: God equips those He calls, not necessarily the most qualified.

  • Prophecy: The deliverance of Israel is set in motion through Moses.

Insights:

  • God doesn’t just call the capable; He makes the called capable.

  • Insecurity often masks pride or fear, but God’s assurance is greater.

  • God uses signs not just to convince others but to strengthen the faith of the called.

Application:

  • Trust that if God calls you to something, He will equip and walk with you.

  • Stop disqualifying yourself with “what ifs.” Say yes to God.

  • Lean on the support He provides—like Aaron for Moses.

Deed:

Write down one area where you’ve been hesitating to act due to fear or inadequacy. Offer it to God and take one small obedient step this week.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your patience and power. Help me not to resist Your calling out of fear or doubt. Equip me with boldness and the confidence that You are with me. I choose obedience over excuses. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
