Exo1:~From Favor to Fear: God’s People in Egypt / Exode 1 : De la faveur à la peur – Le peuple de Dieu en Égypte
Exodus 1: From Favor to Fear: God’s People in Egypt
"Even in affliction, God’s promises are still alive."
Aim:
To understand how God remains faithful even when His people face oppression, and to learn how affliction can be a setup for God’s greater deliverance.
God’s Attributes:
-
Faithfulness – He remembers His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
-
Sovereignty – He allows His people to multiply even under harsh conditions.
-
Providence – He positions the right people (like the Hebrew midwives) at the right time.
Facts :
-
After Joseph’s death, a new Pharaoh arises who does not know him.
-
The Israelites multiply greatly in Egypt, alarming the Egyptians.
-
Pharaoh enslaves the Israelites and orders Hebrew baby boys to be killed.
-
The Hebrew midwives, fearing God, disobey Pharaoh’s command and protect the babies.
The Three Ps:
-
Promises: God's covenant to multiply Israel is unfolding, even in slavery.
-
Principles: Obedience to God surpasses fear of man (as shown by the midwives).
-
Prophecies: The rise of Israel as a nation and their eventual deliverance is being set up.
Insights:
-
Affliction doesn’t cancel God’s promise—it often precedes His breakthrough.
-
Fear of God leads to courage and righteousness (as shown by Shiphrah and Puah).
-
God uses faithful individuals in small roles to change the course of history.
Application:
-
In times of pressure, remember that God is working behind the scenes.
-
Stand up for righteousness even when it’s risky.
-
Celebrate the small acts of obedience—they have kingdom impact.
Deed:
This week, identify one area where you’re tempted to compromise due to fear. Choose faith over fear—like the Hebrew midwives—and act with courage and integrity.
Prayer:
Lord, even when I feel forgotten or oppressed, help me trust Your promises. Give me courage like the Hebrew midwives to fear You more than man. May I stand firm and faithful in small and big things alike. Amen.
Worship Song:
Do It Again – Elevation Worship
Theme: God's faithfulness through every season, even when we don’t see the full picture.
