Exodus 10: Darkness Before Deliverance: God’s Glory Revealed in Judgment

“When hearts resist, God’s power persists.”


Aim: To understand how God’s sovereignty and glory are displayed even in judgment, and to encourage deeper trust in His plan.

God’s Attributes in Exodus 10:

  • Patience – God gives Pharaoh repeated opportunities to repent.

  • Sovereignty – He controls nature and kings to fulfill His will.

  • Glory – He reveals His power so all generations may know Him.

Facts:

  • God sends the eighth and ninth plagues: locusts and darkness.

  • Pharaoh’s heart remains hard despite the devastation.

  • God declares His purpose: to display His wonders and to teach future generations about His power.

Three Ps:

  • Promises: God promised to show His signs so that His people would remember and teach them to their children.

  • Principles: Persistent rebellion against God leads to deeper judgment.

  • Prophecies: God's declaration to bring signs and wonders is part of the unfolding deliverance plan.

Insights:

  • God’s goal is not just punishment but revelation of His character.

  • The darkness over Egypt is symbolic of spiritual blindness.

  • God’s judgments are not random—they are measured, purposeful, and redemptive.

Application:

  • Be sensitive to God's voice and respond early to His leading.

  • Teach your children about God’s mighty works—He works through generations.

  • Trust in God’s justice even when His ways seem severe.

Share a story of God’s faithfulness or deliverance with a younger generation today—your child, a niece/nephew, or in your small group.

Prayer:

Lord God, You are just and powerful. Help me not to resist Your voice, but to walk in Your light. Let my heart be soft to Your leading, and may I always testify of Your works to the next generation. Amen.
