Exodus 9: Unshaken Power: God’s Justice in the Midst of Plagues

"God’s power is unmatched, His justice sure, and His purpose unstoppable"

Aim:

To reflect on God’s sovereignty in judgment, His patience with the stubborn, and His call for obedience and repentance.

God’s Attributes:

  • Sovereign: God controls nature and nations.

  • Just: He judges persistent rebellion.

  • Patient: He gives repeated chances for repentance.

  • Powerful: His authority is above all gods and kings.

Facts:

  • Exodus 9 records the fifth to seventh plagues: livestock disease, boils, and hail.

  • Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened, though his officials begin to fear God.

  • God clearly distinguishes between Egypt and Israel in judgment.

  • God declares that His name will be proclaimed throughout the earth.

Three Ps:

  • Promise: God preserves Israel and keeps His covenant even amid judgment.

  • Principle: God resists the proud but gives opportunities for repentance.

  • Prophecy: “That My name may be declared in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16).

Insights:

  • God’s mercy often comes before judgment—He warns before striking.

  • Hardened hearts become more blind to truth with each rejection.

  • God uses even Pharaoh’s rebellion to declare His glory to the nations.

Application:

  • Reflect on areas where you resist God’s voice.

  • Acknowledge God’s power and yield to His purpose.

  • Don’t delay obedience—respond to His voice before discipline falls.

Deed:

Take time to confess and release any pride or stubbornness. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften your heart in areas where you’ve been resisting God.

Prayer:

Lord, You are mighty and patient. Forgive me for the times I’ve hardened my heart. Help me to yield to Your voice and walk in obedience. May my life proclaim Your name to the world. Amen.
